Overview
developers.android.com (DAC) is the central hub for all Android development resources, requiring quick, high-quality updates aligned with Google’s brand standards. As Senior Designer, I led the rebranding effort, optimized team efficiency, and maintained design consistency through a robust design system overhaul.
Impact highlights
⏩ 6x Efficiency Gain
- Mastered the full feature-set of Figma to streamline processes, resulting in the team working approximately six times faster.
📐 Rapid Prototyping
- Developed a code-consistent design system with a comprehensive component library, enabling fast, high-quality prototyping.
🙅♂️ Error Reduction
- Reduced errors by creating rigid, easy-to-follow rules. Consistency is enforced, allowing designers to focus on crafting exceptional user experiences.
🗣️ Enhanced Collaboration
- Established a shared visual and numerical language, improving communication between design and development through effective naming conventions for components and tokens.
Key Challenge
💡 How might we leverage a design system to boost team efficiency?
When I joined the project, the Figma file was disorganised, with incomplete and poorly documented components. This lack of a “source of truth” led to inefficiencies, frequent cross-checks with developers, and design inconsistencies.
